New album by Italian drummer Francesco Petreni features Giovanni Ceccarelli

 

Italian drummer Francesco Petreni has just released his first album as a leader. “Prima” is published by label Wide Sound and it features such artists as David Binney, Enrico Pieranunzi, Stefano De Bonis, Larry Grenadier, Paolino Dalla Porta, and Ferruccio Spinetti.

Francesco and Giovanni Ceccarelli have been knowing each other and playing together for 25 years. Francesco took part in Giovanni’s quartet in the 1990’s, then recorded for the pianist’s trio album “Météores” in 2011. Both are part of group InventaRio, which released two albums and was nominated for the 2014 Latin Grammy Awards.

In “Prima”, bassist Ferruccio Spinetti, Francesco, and Giovanni are featured in the drummer’s composition “Still Friends”.
