Giovanni Ceccarelli has been collaborating with jazz legend Lee Konitz since 1997, recording with him four albums and touring Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Austria and Liechtenstein. This project, which starts in 2009, is dedicated to the standards’ repertoire.
The album “Waxin’ in Camerino” is recorded by Konitz and the pianist’s French Trio and it is released in 2011 by Italian label Philology Records.
The CD is very positively reviewed by the specialized press, which appreciates the group’s fresh and original approach to the standards’ repertoire:
“Waxin’ in Camerino”… contains eight standards which have been performed with an absolutely original and contemporary kind of expression. This music is far from us in time, but it is indeed close to us emotionally.
Matteo Mosca, Italian website “Jazzitalia”, 2011.
“Waxin’ in Camerino” is awarded with “Jazzit Likes It!” by the Italian magazine “Jazzit”.
